Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

Post by 850 LPT »

I installed an info module with harness and switch and new bulbs in the 850 yesterday, yay! And since I had the car in the garage it was a good time to do some cleaning. So I vacuumed it and wiped the whole dash down with 303 Protectant.

After reconnecting the battery and trying it out, I had NO dash lights
My mind of course went into high gear trying to figure out what I did wrong. Plus, the prospect of pulling the dash top yet again was not really appealing.
For some reason my eyes wandered to the dash light slide adjuster...and it was all the way pushed over to the left. This must have happened when I wiped that area

Also did the 3k oil change with conventional Havoline 5w30 and Mann oil filter.
Had fun with that too because when I took the filter off it slid out of my hand and splashed into my catch container.. boy what a mess to clean up.

I find a pizza box under the oil drain and filter catches the splash, and comes with a hot meal to reward you after an oil change

Personally I find pizza to taste better without engine oil on top.

Haha, those extra oily pizza's are the best!

I had a large piece of card board under the catch container and it still splashed all over the garage floor, even the underside of the engine and the front tire :o

Btw, I use old engine oil for all kinds of stuff (not really on pizza), like chain oil for my Jonsered chain saw or to lubricate the guides on the hydraulic log splitter :D

Today I changed the airfilter and the cabinfilter. And boy, was it time for a change. It were the only two things I really didn't pay attention to when I bought the S70 a few months back and I'm not sure why (I changed the oil and filter two days after purchase). But both filters were black as coal. I thought I had a active carbon cabin filter, but it was black from al the grid and smudge in the filter. Same goes for the airfilter. On the outside it looked quite okay. But when you bend the filter in a U-shape to inspect the filter element... the thing is almost black. I even dare to say that with the clean and new airfilter the car responds faster. This may be some weird placebo effect thinking that a clean filter will do that, but in my opinion I really notice a difference.

Well, if the filter was really dirty and clogged, you may be feeling an actual difference!

That's almost as bad as my cabin air filter when I first got my T5. Was dated 1996 on the side of the filter. Might have been original based on the amount of crud in it.
