Car runs great I think ..... but I’m a female with no

Welcome!

For plugs and any other parts see sites like Fcpeuro and Ipdusa. Ask us which brand is worth

It is good to also test (youtube) and replace the pcv if it wasn't already done.

Good spark plugs are not likely to make the car faster, but using the wrong spark plugs can affect the performance and cause problems. See this comment that I found (viewtopic.php?t=23426).

"I would only use Volvo plugs, not the "oem equivalent" to Volvo plugs. Every time we hear a mis-fire complaint, the first question is did you use factory plugs in the car. 9 times out of 10 the answer is no. Part number is 8692071."

Here is a set from FCPEuro:
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... 90-8692071

Of course, you may not need new spark plugs at this time.

There are things you can do to boost the performance, but I would spend a little time getting used to the car first.

Oragex is referring to a test where you put a rubber glove over the oil filler hole (after removing the oil filler cap) and run the engine in park to see the condition of pressure in the top of the engine. If the glove inflates then the PCV system needs attention or it could pressurize the engine and risk damaging engine seals - oil leak. If the glove is pulled down then the PCV is fine. A grid stops the glove from going into the engine.

I am not sure what would be shiny on top of the drained oil. If there were metal shavings from the engine, they should not float on the oil. Might be worth asking a mechanic to check the new oil and see if it shows the same shiny stuff to identify it and any next steps.

Using the proper spark plug is important, as mentioned previously you won't gain any HP but you could actually lose some HP using improper plugs. Volvo vehicles notoriously reject aftermarket plugs but to each there own. I'm a true believer in using factory parts, especially something as cheap as spark plugs. Fcpeuro.com or IPDUSA.com both sell them. Fcpeuro.com offers a lifetime warranty on everything they sell, you cant beat that...whatever you buy will be replaced if it fails. I'd replace the ignition coils while I was in there doing the spark plugs but that's a bit more money. If your capable you could replace everything yourself and use saved money the ignition coils instead of paying someone to replace the spark plugs. Enjoy your Volvo!!

Hi,
Yes. I did order the VOLVO SPARK PLUGS that ENGINEERINGBLOKE suggested....

I thank you for helping me guys. : )

I have another question regarding changing the TRANSMISSION FLUID ....I know there’s different views on changing the transmission filter on a vehicle with over 100,000miles plus not knowing if the person before me routinely changed the transmission fluid and filter....
I know it doing the filter can be bad especially if there metal in the transmission

I am thinking of just draining the old transmission fluid out and putting in SYNTHETIC FLUID....

Can I use the ROYAL PURPLE STUFF that I read in one of these Volvo forums that it’s great stuff

Also, my TURBO HOSE THE. Short fat one I’m told had oil inside the hose and I am still concerned about the shimmering shiny stuff that was floating in my engine oil.....

Thank you again for all your help ....
This is where being a female when it come to cars is kinda pain in the $:&,$:&&. Lol

I PLAN to do SYNTHETIC TRANSMISSION FLUID

Ha! Our beginning female mechanics make far fewer mistakes because they communicate before they come here, with a tale of “ my friend John told me to put potatoes in my transmission, now it doesn’t work” story

The general consensus here is to drain and replace unknown ATF slowly, about 3 liter a time, over month intervals of driving. Don’t worry about the filter, inspect fluid, take some pics and post here, it will look nasty.

You need to follow the procedure to check the fluid level carefully, it needs to be right.

Do you have the owner manual for you car? Volvo has them online for free

It means that you drain 3 liters from the plug, then replace the three from up top, then check the fluid level per the manual and correct.

After a month of driving, you repeat.

After another month of driving, you repeat again.

Now you have almost new fluid in your transmission and you drive it carefree. Depending on how much you drive , you do this again in something like 50,000 miles

Watch the caps Michelle, it’s considered “ yelling” on internet Fora ... :D
