I sent this question into FCP Euro, since they have kits for replacing the fuel pump and associated parts. Any thoughts?
Hello,
I have recently purchased a 1997 Volvo 850 non-turbo wagon, and the fuel pump on it is bad, and so I am trying to find the right parts for the job. On your website there are a few different things listed that I am not sure about. Since I am still in school and am on a budget the Bosch complete fuel pump service kit for $178 looks pretty good, but I also saw a Delphi fuel pump assembly kit for $364, and, based off of the pictures alone the fuel pump itself looks different in each kit, so my question is, since I am looking to replace my fuel filter as well as the other relevant parts, what is the difference between the two kits and which one is recommended. The Bosch kit is listed as OEM while the Delphi kit is OE.
Thanks

You don't need to whole assembly if you are willing to swap out the fuel pump insert. I never buy the whole assembly. The shiny silver fuel pump inserts into the big white plastic assembly, that's why they look different. Do some searching you will see how-to videos etc on how to swap it in, it is not very hard.
Since you need a fuel filter, this one is a good purchase https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... 9480152kit except you probably don't need to the black fuel pump lock ring. Try loosening yours to be sure but the rings can be re-used many, many times. Add the parts individually it will come to bout $172, save the $6.

You're a lifesaver, thank you very much. I've done a quick youtube search, and I've watched Robert DIY's video, but if you know of any other good how-to videos, then it would be great if you could link it or something.
Again, thanks for helping

Robert's video on removing the fuel pump from the housing skips a few steps but is pretty good:
This one is more thorough, but no narration and the pump housing may be slightly different from yours:
Just go slowly unhooking and disassembling, you will be able to get it back together. Sometimes you have to break off the old filter sock in order to remove the pump from the housing, this is no problem as you are throwing it all away.

Google Bosch 69693.
Search for posts by "stephansvolvo", you may have to remove the black casing on the new pump to fit. Just common sense.

Many people use Walbro replacements. A real Walbro pump is pretty bulletproof but they tend to be a bit noisier than the OEM Bosch. Be careful if you do buy a Walbro though, there are a ton of counterfeits that come in authentic looking boxes.

This is the third time I have read this today about counterfeit Walbros, I am feeling less good about the Walbro from AutohausAZ that I put in last month. Any tips on identifying a counterfeit?
EDIT: never mind, tons of information available e.g. https://www.driven2automotive.com/blog/ ... s-2017-18/ etc.

Usually they have a slash(like this (/) or this (-) )after model numbers.
Originals have(for example) just GSS 342,while counterfeits have GSS 342/01 or GSS 342-01 or -001.
At least that's what i have noticed and car parts store pointed me out about this problem.
The same for all other aftermarket brand replacements.
