2002 S60 T5 manual issues

Hi MVS!!
My son Has a 2002 s60 t5 manual and is making grinding noises out of it. Brought it to a volvo mechanic with 29 years exp. told me that the gearbox is terminal! I kind of knew this was bad b4 bringing to him.Just Needed a second opinion.He told me the transmission of course,but he added the thrust bearing could be bad. I told him that there was no leaks out of the front seal I don't think it is that, but the gearbox is bad Any thoughts about this and where and what manual gearbox will mate up to that. Tried to find a t5 gearbox , none to be found. There is c70 gearboxes,but I dont't know if this will fit

Hi there

Manual transmissions are rather rare here in North America, but these are very common in Europe (UK)

Maybe try gathering some extra information. From forum readings, grinding is not that common, but slave cylinder failure is very common in city driving and needs engine drop. But first, maybe you want to check the fluid level and type ?

Thanks for the reply and the help. The slave cyl. is in good shape and works perfect.It is a grind sound (loud) when you back off the gas.Nothing wrong with the throw out bearing either. I checked the thrust bearing and seems to be in good shape also. I think the synchros are bad. My understanding that these usually don't go and you cannot replace just those alone.Finding a gearbox for this car is not going to be a lot of fun... Will a 01 to 04 c70 gear box fit in this car ? any thoughts?

Hey oragex! Thanks For the help! I listened to the video and my sons car is much louder than that and grinding noise to boot!I wish it was that loud!

Hi Everyone! The gearbox just graneded! Now I am looking for a gearbox for this car> Does any body have one or can direct me to one ?Again will a 01 to 04 c70 fit?
Any thoughts?
