Climate Control Console dead on my 2002 S60 AWD

Post by hoohaman54 »

I had the brake booster replaced by an independent service technican and after picking it up I noticed the Climate Control Console was dead - none of the controls operate and there appears to be no power to it.
Any suggestions on how one repair led to another problem?

Hard to say but I wouldn't think it's a dead unit. Look for fuses that are blown.

I'm sorry but I know very little about the P2 ('01 and newer) platform Volvo climate control units. I guess at this point you'll need to take it back to the guy who repaired your brake booster and see what might be up. Wish I knew more about your car to render a better suggestion.

Given that this center console controls multiple items (heat, fan, AC, heated seats, rear headrests etc.) you soon realize there are several fuses associated with all these items and that is what leads me to believe a connector might have become unmated or wiring damaged.
I'd like to take a look behind the console and see what is there so I believe I will proceed with removing it per the instructions I've seen posted here at this site.

First, try pulling the fuse for the CCM (Climate Control Module) unit. It may reset the unit.

It won't be that easy, you may need a trip to the dealer

I've been to a Volvo dealer and was told that the climate control module is dead and the part cost around $765 with another $30 to program it.
Now I have a mess with the guy who did the break booster not recognizing his responsibility for the damage done to the climate control module.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Don't independant repair facilities carry liability insurance for when this like this occur?

I can't figure out how a brake booster would have anything to do with the CCM

the link between the brake booster and the CCM is that during the replacement of the booster, the fuse panel in the engine compartment needed to me moved out of the way and power was removed from it right at the hot lead on the panel and not at the ground lead on the battery as it should have been done.
The dealer says that pulling the hot lead at the fuse panel can send harmful voltage levels to other areas of the car and in this case, my CCM was destroyed.
