Sneaked out into the garage over lunch and the potion has dropped! I will try spinning the crank pulley tonight. Have to work in NYC tomorrow, if I am lucky I will take Friday and see if I have a runner!!!

Irish bookmaking odds are now up to 50-50 on Lady Evita Recovery

From my maintenance log (Optimist)
Evaluation of motor this weekend.

Got 30mm socket on crank pulley - I can feel crank turning and resistance in pistons. I removed starter and confirmed that the flywheel is moving slightly, but then I put Pooh sticks into all cylinders, 1-4 move but number 5 is stuck firm.

Gentle pressure on pistons confirms movement in 1-4, none in 5

Borescope in 5 unremarkable.

Ive got a feel I have stuck ring in the bore.

Added MMO/diesel/acetone in a proprietary mixture, known only to MVS, to Cylinder 5.

Planned strategy - give it a week soak, then see if I can break it free and retain compression.

A well working MM ETM body will be sacrificed to Odin, God of Volvo this week for compensation.

Quick update. Houston, we have rotation. Cylinder 5 has freed up. I hope to see if I have a runner by end of weekend. They make these engines tough.

Well done! Hopefully you'll get lucky and it will have good compression on all 5.

Have to jump to NYC today but might take Friday morning to try the starter and listen to the top end for expensive noises

I guess a cold compression would also be a good check but honestly I’m told by the gurus if it freed up chances are high the top end is good.

So next steps...

Spinup test
New plugs
Fire it up
Warm it up
Oil change
Test drive

Wife said there was horrific noise from engine when it occurred (which I just learned of last night), but that she shut down immediately on hearing same.

Spouse and offspring all thoroughly instructed to shut down immediately on both any increase in engine operating temperature and expensive sounding noises.
