S60 smokes badly when idling

Post by notny41 »

I'm wondering what would cause my car to smoke profusely after a couple minutes of idling? I just had it in the shop and they put a new PVC system in. It's been smoking like this for quite some time. Car runs very well otherwise.

It doesn't seem to smoke when I'm driving.

2002 S60 AWD

Thanks!

Turbo? How many miles on the engine? Any check engine lights? Regular oil changes?

Sorry...I always forget the mileage - just under 60K. Used to have the check engine light on but after having the car in the shop they replaced the MAP sensor and no more light.

Just had the oil changed too.

Smoke is kind of a greyish color.

If this is a turbo, could be a leaking seal internally. Perhaps valve seals, but with thats few miles seems unlikely unless somebody did not change oil frequently. Tough call.

Also could be a clogged PCV system...get it checked.

No prob. Just hoping someone might have some ideas...

Maybe blown head gasket or some type of issue with radiator? Just some things I've seen in my search for the answer.

I'm really ready to sell this car and never buy a Volvo again - had so many problems with it.

I'm thinking its a small oil drip from the turbo, directly into the exhaust pipe. As was mentioned earlier an internal turbo seal may be the culprit.
