1999 S70 Remote fob or receiver? 9166200 9472724

Post by speedyt5 »

I have been having flaky reception and sometimes just not working key fob. If it is the receiver located under the dash pad, and not the remote can I just get a new receiver or a junk yard one and replace it or does it need to be reprogrammed? Also I was wondering if anyone ever tried swapping the receiver unit from a 98 s70 into a 99 car and programmed it that way instead of going to a dealer like you have to with the 99’s?

The price for having a 1999, and just being an awesome member of the only Volvo Prince write a song about, is you have to pay the dealer tax for a Fob.

You have to buy one which has the original key code attached so that VIDA can assign it to your car, unlike the -1998 model years. Most of the eBay ones , even with the right part number, don't have the code.

Updated 2019-03

This is false - 9166200 does not have a key code associated with it - that happens on P2 fobs only

Source - the one I bought from Volvo , direct.

I bought mine off of eBay in 2005 and took it to dealer and they programmed it. But the question is what about the receiver, if I change the receiver out from a 98 car could that be an easier way of programming a new fob.

There is some chatter about this under the part number given above here on the Forum. I don't know if the 1998 receiver for FOB works in a 1999

Fob is still a 9166200, ‘98-00.

Not sure, but I believe that the
receiver is JUST a receiver and the
fob code is stored in the alarm head.

And Fairbanks is correct. Fake news above corrected by strikethrough

9166200 for key
9472724 for receiver
