Ive had people from NJ come up to steal my used engine oil. They can read your thoughts now, with an iPhone App. The solution is to wear an aluminum foil hat of course.

Years and years of single car key travel (rental cars on the job) long ago trained me to observe

IF DRIVER NOT IN CAR

If windows are up, KEY is not in car.

If Key is in car, WINDOWS are down.

Abscate, the easy fix is to always have the second key on you . I always carry the second key on me in a separate place. So far the car never noticed the extra key present. Having the second key saved my life literally once when I was young. So it was good fatherly advice then and now. June

I will try to explain how in case you ever encounter this problem. First of all my windows weren't moving at all. It was nearly impossible to stick a coat hanger between the door and the seal. I try to pry the door open a bit but it is a tight fit so i would have to use a crow bar or screwdriver, and that would have demolished the body.

Simply, I pulled a bit of weather strip from the driver window just above the lock. I slid a straightened coat hanger down with a simple "J" shaped on the end of it. Straight down, then twisted 90 degrees, and "gently" pulled up. The door lock knob rises and bingo your in.

I hope you never have to experience this because you feel stuck for a solution, but this works. Good Luck!

I removed my door panel today after this experience to see why the manual lock wasn't working. There is a thin metal rod that attaches from the key cylinder and when you turn it, a leaver either gets pushed down, or pulled up. I simply reattached by using duct tape, It worked! This is also the leaver that you want to hook with the coat hanger.
My friend, you just saved me from having to call the locksmith. Thank you so much! I was repairing the lock actuator (a bit ironic) on the drivers door and forgot that I had locked all four doors for demonstration purposes on my youtube video. I shut the drivers door and boom...locked out. Took me 10min of "fishing" until I popped the lock. Awesome.
This same thing happened to me today. I'm about to go pop out the weatherstrip, and J-hook the lock mechanism. I'll time myself and see how long it takes.

Update. 10minutes 31 seconds. Could probably do it in less than a minute now. You don't want a J-Hook. You want something strong, thin, and straight. I used the steel inserts from my rear wiper. Taped those together, came at the mechanism straight on, pushed down, and I was in. Enjoying the seat heater now. Ahhh.

In Portland, they'd never show up for that. Hahahahaha. Fire hazard. They'd laugh, and laugh.
