'96 850 manual box oil

Post by mistercrunch »

Is it necessary to replace the gearbox oil? Recently changed the ATF in my dad's XC70, made a HUGE difference, but that's an auto. Is it necessary for the manual transmission? My car has 295 000 km. As far as I know, this has never been done before. Thanks!

It is not a normal service item. Usually it is only changed if the box has to be pulled out for repair.

The oil level should be checked every 7,500 miles (12,000kms) and topped up if needed.
