Original owner 00 XC70 ~94k miles. Replaced angle gear (AKA differential) at 43K. Dealer says it needs replaced again in addition to the radiator, and possibly the timing belt in the near term. Thus, the question: is it time to buy a new car? I have spent a healthy portion of my daughter's inheritance maintaining this car. I failed to mention a reputable independent repair shop can do the rediator for about 50% less and will try to replace the seals before going to the more expensive option. $3500 dealer or maybe $750-2500 independent. Thanks for your opinions in advance.
Thanks,

I'm no expert, but from what I hear the XC70 and most 1998-2000 AWD models have expensive problems and premature wear. It will gradually cost you more in the long-run, and I would assume that the differential will need replacing again in another 40k miles. I'm not sure what the differential lifetime is. I mean, I got rid of my S70 for having a bad evaporator, which was going to cost me $1,600, and that was only at 75,000 miles.
