So I was swapping the coil on #4 and as I was looking at parts I had taken off I noticed this piece is broken and brittle. I checked IPD to see if I could identify it but couldn’t find it. Can someone identify it?

Pay the $72.00 for a new one or patch it with JB Weld for plastic. If you patch it, let the epoxy cure overnight where it is warm. If keeping it in place is a problem you can tack weld it with a soldering iron then the apply JB Weld for plastic.

If I were to try and repair it with JB Weld and for some reason the repair failed. What symptom would I expect to see? Occasionally before this I would see turbo underboost. Could this have caused it?

It would cause underboost. The boosted air from the turbo flows through it.

Agree you will get turbo boost errors. I would not try to repair it as the piece needs to be some what pliable and the clamp will not sit very well. Personally I have never had luck fixing plastic in similar use situations. Maybe JB Weld Plastic will work.

I tried another "glue" plus Silicon Seal tape and it was a fail. Ended up just buying the piece new. Of course you can hit Craigslist for S80 or XC90 used parts or a nearby wrecker.

Thanks. I think I’ll attempt the fix. Worst case I’m out $6 for jb weld. Considering it’s such little effort to take off I’m not concerned about doing it twice if I have to replace the piece all together.

If you are going that route - here is what I would do. Remove the piece, clean it up well. Hit it with some light sand paper and then clean and dry. Reinstall the piece. From here take some zip ties and see where you can position them so that the rip sits nicely. Hopefully it will be on the far end nearest the runner. Cut off what ever doesn't work. Glue the ripped area light and then cinch up the zip tie and finish your gluing. You want a nice surface where the clamp will evenly apply force. When the epoxy starts to set take a piece of plastic bag over your finger and smooth it out nicely. Once it is set install the clamp. If you want place a nice layer of RTV over the entire area and then install the clamp - put some over the clamp. You can use the a piece of the plastic bag to smooth things over and remove once everything is set. You just want to create an air tight seal - so extend the RTV onto the plastic, but take care it cannot get sucked into the system.

If you try gluing the piece before install I think it will tear at the seam again that is why I would install first. You can also try and find another hose clamp that is thinner so you have more area to glue.

Thanks so much for your help. That repair was a huge fail. I think the plastic was just too brittle. I tried to repair it off the vehicle before I saw your post. The idea of getting rtv pushed through the inter cooler worried me too. I ended up ordering a new part from a local Volvo repair shop.
