Vacuum smoke test plug in spot

Post by DillAg13 »

Hi All,

Anyone have a suggestion on the best location to plug in a smoke line on a V70R? VIDA says to go through the turbo inlet post-maf but I'm wondering if there's a smaller location.

In my experience it depends on what circuit you want to test. Generally plug at the intake and at the airbox and pick any easy point to insert air if it is testing what you want. If you have a set up that allows you to plug and insert air where VIDA suggests that is the same as capping and installing elsewhere. What you are trying to prevent is a large path for the air to escape not allowing any pressure to build.

If you are testing a turbo line, you can just pull the line off the solenoid, excluding all other circuits (as an example), and insert vacuum or air there.

Common pvc plumbing caps work well with a proper size hose clamp, just don't go wild with the pressure. People tap these plumbing caps with air fittings to insert air - all depends on what you have for tools and how much work you want to do to build a nice set up.

I would say that spending some time now making a nice set up will be time well spent. Lots of videos and articles out there on what and how to create - plus testing.

Abscate - good catch. Remove the MAF tube and insert air there if you put a fitting on your cap or cap the end and insert else where, assuming you are testing that region.
