One other thing to check is the condition and tightness of the hoses to and from the intercooler. The car runs much as you describe if there is a loose hose or a hole in one of the hoses. The holes usually occur on the side of the hose where you can't see it without removing the hose from its connection point.

Rguzz has a good point - if you’re missing a cylinder, it will often be rough at idle, seem smooth while cruising and then be rugged again under load, with loss of power. Check your codes and see if there are misfires. Check firing order and wires again for correct placement at both ends. Inspect plugs.
As for the movement, which I didn’t see anyone comment on - engine should move very little while you’re in a position to observe it. Check upper torque mount, and lower torque mount for wear and play. Front mount (i.e. passenger side engine mount is a known culprit as well. All these three are easy to replace, however.
Vacuum/boost leaks are super common on these cars, and probably account for 70% of weirdness, if not more. I’d put hoses and codes at the top of my list of things to check.

Thanks for all the comments. Code is misfire calendar 1. With new plugs wires and coil. That leaves injector or head gasket

Or a burnt exhaust valve (check compression)
Or a leaky intake manifold gasket but that is usually at the cylinder 5 end
Also note the cylinder # report is not always accurate for misfires.
Did you swap the plugs around, it's not a bad plug in #1? What kind of plugs?
Are the wires Bougicord? Aftermarket wires are a big issue with these cars.

Bosch coppers should be fine but post up the plug number when you get to that.
