Fuel pump relay

My 1994 940 Volvo can be driven anywhere from 100 yards to 5 miles before the engine shuts off. The next day the engine starts without fail.Per my mechanics instructions,I bought a fuel pump relay.There are slots in the "board" to accomodate the relay,but there are no wires which come up through the bottom of the board into which the relay attaches.Can someone help me??

you take out the old relay, and replace it with the new one... You do not add it as an auxilary device.
