To redo PCV or not?

I have sort of taken over taking care of my parents 1996 Volvo 850 GLT wagon (NA) recently.

I have performed the glove test and it seems fine as the glove does not inflate and it gets sucked down after revving the engine a bit. The car does not seem to consume oil (doesn't require any filling between changes). All of this would suggest the PCV system is fine. The car has 153k miles and the PCV system has never been serviced.

I have purchased the PCV kit from IPD as well as some silicone vacuum lines to replace all of the vacuum lines at the same time. The question is should I perform this service now or wait until the car begins to fail the glove test?

Its a pretty hard job, working under and removing the intake. And a tree could fall on your car next week... except I just did mine and the two hoses were brittle and broke removing them. Na may only have one. same year but turbo. The box was empty and fine and so was the dranback .

If the PCV System is not broken don't fix it unless there is another reason to take off the Intake Manifold. Did you get a Intake gasket and and breather hoses with that kit?

forgot to say; if its not Volvo throw it away. IDP also sells cheap ones that last 8 months. If I had it over again I would have only got all the hoses and clamps, not the box. Check the reviews on their site and on FCP for the different parts.

There are OEM parts that are just as good as Genuine Volvo.
Bashing a Sponsor with stuff that is not true is never a good idea.

there are OEM in other parts, but as far as I can tell O rings, rubber hoses plastic items & many other things do not have a resupply by OEM manuifactures. If you have the OEM for the vent hoses and puke box please let us know. IPD is well aware of the reviews on there
aftermarket vent kit and continue to sell them. also if they knew there are only twelve people on this forum they would cancel their ad.

I can find bad reviews on just about anything, done by Shills and Idiots. What is your source of these alleged bad reviews?

The PO installed the IPD PCV kit (as well as the high-mileage mod) over 6 years ago in my S70, 60k+ miles later it still passes the glove test and visual inspections. Not saying it's what I would have installed, but it doesn't appear to be crap.

If it passes the glove test, visual inspection, and shows no signs of needing the PCV service, don't do it unless you HAVE to take the intake manifold off for something else.

When I got my volvo kit from IPD the reviews of the aftermarket vent kit were there. they appear to be scrubbed now. Here is typical one from v70r forum. (they still sell the aftermarket kits AT IPD) Dont get me wrong, I use IPD but you have to be careful when to stray from Volvo brand parts regardless who has assembled the kit.Rubber and plastic parts never work out aftermarket.

Hopefully, those consuming reviews weight 7-year-old reviews as not being relevant to what’s shipped today.

Parts today, WWJD...what would June do?

My T5 with thermo-warmed PCV was first changed at 160k and was less than 10% occluded. It has Dino oil changes every 5000 miles first half of its life.
