Hi all. I’m going to share my journey with my latest Volvo. This is number 5 for us and the first P2 platform car I have ever purchased. Now, I should point out that I’m not like normal people who look for a nice car without problems, have them checked carefully etc. Sometimes I wish I was normal though. My wife OFTEN wishes I was normal...I digress. No, yours truly often comes home with strays and orphans. Usually it ends well and with the vehicle being sold as soon as it’s running perfectly and the whole sorry process is repeated. My better half informs me in 13.5 years of wedded bliss this makes car number 39!

I have a lot to learn from this one, I feel. There are many things wrong with it. Some obvious, some not. Hopefully I can fix it and maybe somewhere along the way someone out there will read it and find some helpful information or offer helpful information. Here she is.

Nice ride and colour!

I have a phone module keypad for a 2002 T5 here.....pulled it from a wrecked S60 T5 2002 here in Oz. I wonder if the 2002 phone module supports the 3G network. Sadly my 2001 T5 phone only went up to the 2G network which was phased out earlier last year.

This one has the SIM card in the front under the keypad as opposed to the SIM in the rear under the cargo boards on the 2001. Pay the postage and it's yours!

"Strays and orphans", that about defines the category of cars I've been buying recently. As for the picture of your new car's selling feature, I'm guessing you meant the tachometer, showing it happily idling at 700RPM. Having a project car that you can drive to your house is a significant improvement over the ones that have to be towed on a trailer.

I like the blue color of your new wagon. I'm curious what sorts of issues you have to shake out.

Thanks Mike, but mine has a phone in it which I can’t wait to get rid of! A cup holder is of far more importance to me...well, she actually

I like the blue too. That was the actual selling point to be honest that and the reading on the odometer which is a shade over 76k miles! (Plus a couple hundred uncounted due to ABS fault...)

Hi All,

It's time to share all the things that need attention.

First and foremost the ABS fault, as this is the one thing that will prevent me from obtaining my annual WOF (NZ speak for safety check) I started muddling through this in my mind here viewtopic.php?f=9&t=88709

I bit the bullet and have ordered a new (NEW!!) ABS module which will need to be programmed no doubt once I get it....Sadly, that will account for over half the purchase price of the car!!

Additionally in no particular order:

Front struts (not obvious on the test drive but very obvious on an insidious bump just down the road from my house..D'oh!)
Engine mounts... she vibrates at idle like a 3 cylinder tractor.
Broken dipstick
Useless space robbing phone
Door speakers rattle and distort with any amount of bass
Factory subwoofer unit not working
Terrible surge on acceleration- almost like an elephant is using the throttle pedal as a trampoline.
Insane tailgate trim rattle

There will be more, I have no doubt.

I assume the hard acceleration is the line to the waste gate is off so your turbo is uncontrolled. but my experience is with p80.

Parts oredered!

1x 8671456 BCU from Volvopartswebstore in Oak Park Il

5x NGK copper plugs, Mahle fuel filter, and 2x SACHS struts from Rockauto (how can they fedex it for over 70% LESS than FCP can?)

Front engine mount, transmission torque mount, and in-dash cup holder from FCP (GRRR shipping for this tiny lot was MORE than the heavy bulky stuff from Rockauto)

Already done: new engine oil dipstick, new trans dipstick, new TCV, new air filter (original was marked as replaced in 2010!! and FILTHY) Engine oil and filter replaced synthetic 5w40.

Just purchased: 8 litres of FUCHS TITAN ATF4400 to commence drain and fills for the transmission.

Exciting journey ! At least your aren’t in a VW group which would be Marco Polo’s journey......

Shipping isn’t all about the volume you do , more stuff shipped, cheaper rates which you May or May not pass on.
