re; rear shock, they dont do anything on the up, and dampen the down after the bump. basically they do nothing except keep the tire form oscillating up and down and reduce bounce.

That is full retail for a fully loaded in clean condition. Private party transaction would be ~ $1600.

Trade in $900, Private party $1600, Dealer Retail: $2900.

What if the stop-neutral software is still installed and how could it be removed?

Also, what additional years around '01 have similar fitment parts?

Does the '01 have the pricey throttle control thing and fuel pump that requires tank drop?

Hi Jim, here's 2001 Volvo transmissions guide page, with links off from it with loads of information. Short answer: if it still has stop-neutral, a dealer or VIDA can remove it.
JimBee wrote: 03 Apr 2019, 21:38 Also, what additional years around '01 have similar fitment parts?
I'd say there's perhaps a small 5% incompatibility each year out from 2001, with a jump at 2004.

All of the 2001 V70 turbos have the problematic Magnetti-Marelli ETM. Only the V70XC (4WD)in 2001 has the split fuel tank which has to be dropped to replace the pump and as far as I can tell the T5's were all FWD.

T5 is tempting but I'd wait for an 04+, or a cheaper 01 with ETM and neutral stop fixed.

You are on Minneapolis roads I think? An 850 will always be jarring in that case, especially a wagon.

If it’s gotta a yellow label on the throttle body it’s been done

If it’s white labeled ETM at 140k, it’s right at end of life. Budget $500 for that.

If it shifts fine , don’t worry about the AT

Thanks all for the info. I'm ruminating on it.

Supposing that the car has good esthetics but hasn't been maintained or lacks records and needs a new ETM, what are the likely repairs going to add up to?

I'm thinking TB, water pump and roller kit, suspension parts, tires (no mention in ad), brakes. Would the buyer be looking at another $1,000 to $1500 in parts?

That would be worse case I think, Jim

Could easily be under $500

A yellow labeled ETM is not a guarantee it doesn't need replacement, only that it has been replaced at least once.
Have a look at this survey of people that did the XeMODeX replacement:

Note the sticker color of the ETM they replaced.
