1993 940 SOMETIMES NO START

Post by dlaroche1 »

I have a 940 with 200k it has the regina injection. Every now and then it will not start and has no spark. Also once it cut off while idling just like you turned off the switch then no start until the next day. Only other weird thing is that my mom said it tried to run away then died once on her. New fuel pump, filter and relay recently. When it does run it stumbles when you floor it for a few seconds. Bad magnetic pickup? Thanks.

The two main problems with these beasties appears to be fuel pump relay and crank position sensor. These are wear items according to those of who have such. They are relatively inexpensive from fcpgroton and easily replaced.

This does not guarantee the problem is solved, but appears to be the number one items.

Ok so I've changed the crank position sensor, the fuel pump relay and the coil. I've also checked the fuel system grounds on the fuel rail and the power at the battery terminal. Some days it will crank right up time and time agail, but usually it has no spark. Any ideas bofore I get rid of it?Thanks.

On some of the 90 models and 91's the "brain" had a fault which would not allow fuel pumps to fire up. I have picked up used brains to solve this problem.

Any possibility of a bad wire to the distributor and I mean the small ones? Old cars tend to get strange wiring poblems. Check the small coil wires. Had one where the small wire was not making a good contact and caused an intermittent.

Frustration I know, but if you don't give up you will find it.

Did you check brickboard's FAQ?

The fuel pump runs every time the key is switched on whether it cranks or not. Also there is power at the coil also.
