P1103 code, failing ETM symptoms
P1103 code, failing ETM symptoms
I have an 01 s60 with about 208k on it. I have begun to get symptoms of a failing ETM for a second time. I am also pulling a p1103 code and I am stumped. I found that is was the MAF after some research. In the spring of 2016 I had the ETM rebuilt by Xemodex and it ran beautifully until about a month or so ago. I have checked the fuses, cleaned the throttle, checked other codes, changed fuel filter, air filter, and had a spare MAF. I replaced the MAF and the car still runs the same and I get the code still. I checked some more around the internet and I read about the MAP sensor failing. My car chugs under slight acceleration on the highway around 50-60 mph, the rpm drops when I let off the gas then shoot back up to over 1000. I also get hesitant acceleration, stalling , and sometimes hunting at idle. When the car is parked, I can rev the engine and it drops below 500 for a split second, chokes out, and then dies. It does not do this every time but it does happen. I even put the car in drive to see if it happens and it does but not as often. The car also dies sometimes if I accelerate and have to brake right after such as at a yellow light on an expressway or if someone cuts me off. I'm going to check the vacuum and what the MAP sensor reads later this afternoon, but any suggestions are appreciated.
Turns out that the hose to the MAP sensor had a large tear in it. At certain positions the leak was small but at times the tear would cause a larger leak making the car stall out. I just used the old hose as it was more than long enough and just reattached it to the sensor. Car runs great now!

Could you tell us (me, really) where the MAP sensor and its hose are located, please?

I think its a typo for MAF
On a 2001 turbo (?) there is a MAP sensor down on the ETM hard intake pipe but it rarely fails
Im sorry I missed this one - it was a classic induction leak symptom and cause

I have a 2001 S60 non turbo with the exact same issues that ( adriggs1 ) mentions in his post above. Are there any other solutions to this issue. I have removed and inspected the MAF hose and find no tears. The MAF sensor has been replaced as well as the oxygen sensor and different ETM has been installed. The Volvo mechanic has been diagnosing the issue and now claims it MAY be the ECM. For an additional $900.00 I can explore this route with no guarantees. Anyone else have an idea what this could be? All the Volvo mechanic did was replace the parts (ETM, MAF & Oxygen sensor) that I had already replaced. They actually re-installed my original ETM concluding that my original performed better. I wont totally disagree with that conclusion, however the issues mentioned in the previous post by ( adriggs1 ) are still present with my S60. I could use some advice from anyone experiencing the same issues, and any other possible solutions. Can a used ECM from a different S60 be used? Plug and play? Or does it have to be re-programmed at the Volvo shop? I would appreciate any help!
