V70r Transmission issue

Post by grizzygroff »

Hey guys I'm new here and just purchased a 2004 V70R with known transmission issue. It will not go into any gear, for a couple seconds it will go into reverse or drive and then lose all power completely. I Had someone local to me come by with vida and pulled the codes. Checked the fluid level and it read good but the fluid was pretty dirty.

tcm-002f. lock-up function slipping or not engaged
tcm-0115. Shift solenoid s3 hydraulic fault

According to the previous owner he was going down the freeway and the trans make a loud clunk and all power was lost. He went on to say that he would turn the car off and back on and regain power. He had a shop replace one of the solenoids and the problem still is there

This weekend I plan on doing a full trans flush and the reset adaptations and hope it will help with the issue.

If anyone has encountered this problem please chime in

thanks

I haven't and none of the descriptions of trannie maladies posted here resemble yours.

Best of luck with your flush. I wonder if a shaft broke (effectively disconnecting the torque converter or some such)

You need a new transmission.

TCM-0115 is the Shift solenoid S3 stuck open, stuck closed or defective.

You might try draining a little fluid out of the transmission, top it off with a bottle of Seafoam.
Run the engine and see if the Seafoam will unstuck Shift solenoid S3.
If not, replace Shift solenoid S3, it is bolted to the outside of the transmission.

Outside of Evans creampuff Sonic Blue, and the $15000 tip tops, it seems like Rs that come up for sale are mostly thrashed out cars that someone bought and consumed.I guess that goes with the performance mantra and 300 HP to some degree.

Lockup function is SLU. The S3 failed, because the clutches in torque converter did fail, clutch material is dispersed everywhere in transmission: valve body, bearings, filter. Main clutch packs are worn too. Differential bearing needs a new shim. Cheapest thing is to replace transmission with a used working one, but they are rare.

Will try the sea foam before I do a complete flush. I bought the car knowing it would most likely need a new trans. Trying a couple cheap options before I decide to replace the entire trans. Thanks for your guys input.

Also check the wiring on the transmission speed sensor. The transmission speed sensor is associated with both of the codes.

To some degree agreed.

Our nice one is somewhere in the middle of those. It went from the dealer to an insurance company executive who dove it to 90k making all the dealer service appointments until they needed a new car, then a nice couple who replaced the 4C struts at the shop and realized what they were in for and put it up for sale, then to us at 125k. Angle gear went out somewhere in there and no one even knew it so I had a good lever for haggling. There are a lot of those types of ownership paths around the midwest urban centers.

Did a trans flush today and ran 14 quarts through it. The car runs the same as before. No codes as of right now will let the car idle for awhile and see if anything comes back. Car will reverse but have to rev it out to get it going and same with first. No 2nd gear when in manual mode. I shift it into 3rd and the car runs perfect. Kind of thinking the valve body at this point and praying it’s not needing a new trans
