In the process of rebuilding a 2003 S60 2.4t motor that died from oil starvation and spun crank bearings at the hands of the PO. I am assembling the head now and have discovered some wear at two cam bearing locations. I would describe them as #3 and #6 on the intake cam. Photos attached of head and cam cover. I have cleaned these up as best I can. There is not any damage to the cam.
Would you carry on an reassemble as is? I am not looking trying to go another 100,000 miles.
If not, my next move would be to pull a head off a junkyard car if available.
Thanks,
John
Cam bearing wear, would you reassemble?

Im no expert in engine rebuilding but I would have tossed that head and gotten another one from the junkyard, they’re pretty cheap.

I had considered replacing rod bearings on my '08 S60, which also had spun a bearing due to sludging. When I took the engine apart I noticed that all main bearings looked pitted. I decided that it would be cheaper to pull an engine at Pick-n-Pull than to buy all the required bearings. Tossed the old engine, and the new one from '06 XC70 seems to be purring quite happily so far, 2000 miles into it. If you are not looking to get another 100K miles anyway, then take the easy route, don't put any more good parts into the abused engine.

Thanks, good points all around.
In hindsight the engine swap would have been the right (well, more economical) choice. Though part of my reasoning was to learn about the engine rebuilding process. I do confess to be being naive about the cost of parts (not to mention the parts that were outright missing...)
I already rebuilt the bottom end with new big end bearings and new rings in the pistons, so I feel good about that assembly. I scouted out the junkyard yesterday and they have two cars with the B5244T3 motor, so I plan to go next weekend to pull a head. I don't think I will even disassemble it to lap valves and put in new valve seals, just clean up the mating surfaces and roll with it.

Make sure you get the Cam Cover that is on the junkyard head. The two where matched at the factory. Don't get the two Cam Covers mixed up, mark one of them with a paint stick.

...and that right there could be the reason why I have the current condition of the head... I didn't want to complicate the question with more details than necessary... But one of the parts that was missing from the project (it came to me disassembled) was the cam cover. So... I pulled one from the junkyard and mated it to the cams and head I had on hand. I had everything reassembled and (after replacing the fuel pump) it fired up and ran fine... briefly, then jumped time. At first I suspected the timing belt tensioner... but perhaps the mis-matched parts did not provide correct journal clearances and the cam actually locked up in the head.
I pulled the head, identified the bent valves and lapped them and swapped those out with good ones from another head, then noticed the damaged bearing surfaces. Plan to proceed with the junkyard plan.
Thanks Rick

Get the entire upper end. Head, Cam cover, Camshafts .. etc.
Mark or organize the lifters so you can get them back in the same place.
I could be wrong but I think the B5244T3 are solid lifters, the lifters would already be matched to that head and cams.

Will do it. And yes, they are solid lifters... as a side note, the disassembled motor came to me with the lifters unmarked. Was a lot of fun trying to read their size, determine the gap and calculate which lifter went where....

In that case don't deny yourself joy, mix them up.
