Your right Misha I looked at 300v. I looked at these over a year ago and considered the 100% synthetic group 4 which is what Mobil 1 used to be and Amsoil still is and decided to go with a group 5 Ester based oil.
I still would like to hear how your car does over time. Thanks, June

Motul 4100 15w-50 sds have incredible numbers on paper...with pour point of -42 Celsius...which is the same like 5w grade oils.
I'm also impatient to see how the engine will behave since i have ocassional blue smoke after the car idle a bit, because of worn valve stem seals.

Changing oil before OEM recommendations will increase an engine's lifespan. I avoid high priced oils, but I do buy a mixture of semi-synthetic and synthetic oils. As noted in an article, Synthetic Motor Oil - Do Synthetic Oils Really Work?
Specific measurable results from careful testing prove that synthetics are superior in the lab to conventional oils. Synthetics are clearly also great performers in the real driving environment. Unfortunately, it can be difficult or impossible to quantify the exact advantages of synthetic in a particular vehicle-especially on lightly-stressed stock factory engines in ordinary driving conditions where modern, high-quality mineral oils work quite well. It can be a little like a person trying to quantify the benefits of wearing sunscreen indoors.
Do consider 1,000,000 mile semi-trucks have used conventional oils. Oil changes cost money, and its not uncommon to find those who do not follow OEM recommendations. Many car engines since 1980s can last a long time, if oil/filter changes are practiced. Why engines can last longer is directly related to EPA mandates, and better oils.
On older engines, there will be oils better suited than others for decreased oil consumption. And yes, STP still works fine, as an additive. Years ago, I had a 1968 Rambler, with 200k miles on it before it was retired, due to rust, not the engine which had lots of STP added, from about 30,000 miles onward. I even use it on one of my Volvos, which needs to be re-ringed...STP keeps oil consumption down.

Footnote - "No matter how good a synthetic oil may be when fresh, any engine oil will gradually accumulate combustion blow-by and other contaminants that cannot entirely be filtered out and thus gradually damage the oil. What's more, any synthetic oil can degrade more quickly if abused."

Footnote II - With later day engines running hotter core temperatures, conventional oils may not cut the mustard. As I quoted in this thread, Volvo Synthetic oil campaign 2016 - warranty requirement?
"GM had a ring deposit issue, causing an increase in oil consumption, some years ago, and then came out with their oil, and then improved on it. More here: Understanding GM’s dexos1™ PCMO specification......Manufacturers are downsizing engines and incorporating features such as gasoline direct injection (GDI) and turbocharging to optimize fuel consumption. These smaller, lighter engines tend to run hotter and are under more stress than older engines, meaning they need stronger protection."
I would like to think Dexos branded oil would work just fine, for those with later model engines. As they note,
"In 2010, GM introduced its dexos1™ oil specification, then upgraded it in 2015. The more stringent dexos1 2015 standard, also referred to as dexos1 Gen 2, sets forth the requirements for developing oils that can be used with today’s advanced engine technologies. Approved dexos1 oils will be mandatory for both factory fills and service fills starting with 2017 and 2018 GM models. Oils formulated to meet dexos1 specifications are also backwards-compatible with older engines. "
I believe changing oil/filter more frequently is much better than buying high dollar oil and changing it on OEM/OIL recommendation interval, especially for those who drive city miles mostly

A update on the continued cleaning effect of Redline oil in my engine. I continue to be impressed. I am using the same flashlight as last year's photo. The head is noticeably cleaner. June
