New issue for me, couldn't find much in the search and haven't much data or really looked into it.
96 855 turbo, engine code 57.
Intermittently the coolant temp gauge doesn't register.
1st time. I was halfway home from work (5ish miles) and it was still on low. Watched it and it popped up when i gave it some gas. Thought it was just a bubble in the system. Didn't happen again until today.
2nd time. Left for work this am, stopped for smokes (left it running while I went in) and before getting on the highway noticed it was at low. Pulled over, put it in park, restart and it popped back up.
3rd time. On the way home everything was good, stopped for beers, in and out, car still hot. Temp gauge on low, gas gauge dropped ot empty (no gas light, just filled up yesterday.) Shut it off, started it up, gauges back to normal.
I didn't notice what the gas gauge was doing the 1st 2 times but saw it drop the 3rd time. No other lights. Fluids checked and cooling system burped.
Just wondering if anyone has any insights?

Could be the temp sender on the thermostat housing. Could also be a weak electrical connection somewhere in the gauge cluster. I'd start by cleaning the temp sender connections. It's the easiest to get to. Then I'd trace the system back to the gauges. You can also check the fluid levels if they fluxuate that could be air in the system. It could also be a bad Thermostat. There's a lot of possibilities. But I can tell you for sure it's not your brakes or fuel system.
