P80 Ignition switch wiring 9447804 pin outs pin assignments

Post by Rgierer »

The car is a 1998 V70T5. I am replacing the ignition switch. In the process of pulling the switch, the wires became free and are now a random collection of 9 wires, I need to attach to 9 pins. I have looked on line and the wire colors do not match the wire colors I am working with.
I need to find a photo or a diagram which will allow me to find the correct way to attach them.
I have spent hours experimenting and I am making no headway.
Any help?
Robin

Yeah, the switch changed in mid 99 that must be the later one. Does this look more correct, from an 850?

Take this nice and slow , Robin.

You can do real damage if you get these wrong, and also gets dangerous if you start cranking the car unexpectedly.

I think I have both kinds of switch In my stash in case you aren’t positive tomorrow

OK so I had a couple more minutes to think about this annnnd ... the 98 V70 and 850 ignition switches are not the same, so the wiring likely isn't either. Don't use the 850 diageram I posted up there!

But better yet, the US market 1998 S/V70 wiring diagrams can be perused (https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/downl ... _Coupe.pdf) and on page 9 you will find this:

Take your time like abscate said and this one will work.

My wire colors don’t match any of the diagrams.
I have been experimenting.
I have all the lights coming on and the starter engaging at the right time but the car does not start.
Ideas?

If my V70 was here, I'd just go take a pic for you. That's your best bet.

Are the plugs getting a spark?

When the starter engages does it sound normal or is it "maybe too easy" for the engine to turn over?
