'98 S70 is at 95k miles - what do I need to save up to fix next?

Post by utilityaudio »

Hi folks, as the title says, my '98 S70 is currently at 95k, and currently running pretty well and I'd like to keep it that way.
What should I be thinking about having repaired/replaced in the near future?

In the last year, it's gotten new tires, new rear brakes (calipers, rotor, and pads), oil changes, and a couple bulbs, planning on having the front brakes done soon (mechanic said that they had 10-15k left when I had the back done).

Thanks in advance.

Check your PVC for pressure, if your catch that before it gets pressure, you save a lot of money.

+1, if it hasn't been done before I would HIGHLY recommend taking care of that. Many people overlook the fact that on low mileage cars, parts still fail due to time. Timing belt should be replaced every 10 years regardless of mileage on low mileage cars.

And by timing belt Chuck means if the timing rollers, tensioner and belt have ever been done. Leave the Volvo water pump alone, some people foolishly replace it at the ~100k timing belt job. But the water pump can easily go another timing belt change.

If the rollers were done but the belt is old, see bmdubya's points.

JRL had one a while back that only had something like 34k miles! It was a crazy clean 2000 S70 GLT SE.

There was one for sale locally with under 100.000 km, quite cheap (2.000 or somewhere in that neighborhood), but it had no AC and turbo...

The one I just bought has 102k miles, and I was looking at another that had 98k miles. I don't know if the guy ever sold the 98k mile one, it needed so much work though (new tires, tranny fluid burnt, weird rust spots on the paint, PVC valve, few other things). But yeah, amazing how many miles most of them have. Tough to find one under 200k.

It really is, and it just seems to be getting tougher. Mine have 191k and 188k, and I consider that low mileage for P80s.
