I will be looking into replacing the valve body on my wife's 2001 S60 with 90k miles on it in a few weeks. The fluid was drain/filled a while ago by a shop (no idea if they used the correct fluid as it was done before we bought it). Right now it drives ok but once engine is warmed up and you come to a stop and quickly want to make a right turn, seems you lose a gear (as if it's a standard shift car) and then bumps and you get the gear back. I am suspecting the valve body but at this mileage??? Should I run a trans tune in it , drain the fluid that's in it and refill with Toyota IV/Mobil 3309?
Now, the real question, If I had to replace the valve body, I heard 2001-2002 are special transmissions, different than the other years because of a difference in the neutral or something. Can I get a valve body from any Aisin AW55 trans? Or any valvebody from 2001-2007 S60/V70?
Dan

Could be valve body. Could be as simple as incorrect fluid level. There is a specific process for checking fluid level. It has to be done with transmission HOT after a long drive. Engine running, parked on a level spot. Move shifter through all gears. Then remove dipstick and check fluid level.
01/02 shifted to neutral when stopped. This was quickly disabled with a software upgrade early in most cars' life. New valve bodies are available on ebay for other versions of the AW55, they require some modification to work in the Volvo. This will require some research on your part to track down various forum threads discussing this.
Also research B4 Servo cover.

Sounds like you still have a stop-neutral feature. Disable it: TCM reload at dealer or about $100 if you own a DiCE and buy a 3 day VIDA subscription.
If you really need a valve body, most likely it is an early version, with no stamped letter or letter "A". https://www.sonnax.com/tech_resources/2 ... tification
