04 s60r engine swap to s60 chassis?

Post by Cjpcoolguy »

Hi all,

I Recently purchased an 04' s60r for a really good price because the front strut towers are rotten out and basically not fixable. Also purchased an 04 s60, same 2.5t, also AWD, same options. Looking to swap engine from r model to non r model. From what I understand, the thing should drop in and run, however will still be running on the original non R motor tune.

I am looking to confirm that the easiest way to fix this would be to simply have the original ecu upgraded & tuned to run the R engine.

Also, I do have the entire car so ECM, CEM, and all other associated devices if that is another option.

If anyone has any input or suggestions, that would be great! Thank you!

Well? MDK here. Seriously, it would be much easier to "dial up" your S60 AWD than swap out your engine. There's so many variables to do what your proposing. This is just my opinion you understand... swap out your interior.. swap out the wheels.. get a dual exhaust system and take it somewhere to have them tune it if you can't do it yourself. Then I would pull all the significant R parts.... Instrument cluster.ecm...tcm every module that seems to be in good working order.. everything you can pull and sell them o eBay motors. By the time you're done you'll probably make money and still have a fast sedan without the headaches of owning an R car. I have a 2004 R car. Gigantic PITA!!!

did you get it figured out? i did the same thing you were doing. all you need to do to get the ecu to work in the new car is to take the ignition and immobilizer unit from the donor car with the ecu and swap them out. you won't have any immobilizer issues, may want to change out the door and trunk locks just in case the battery dies though.
