Outer CV needs a different type of grease. Inner one (tripod) can use the grease from the GKN rebuild kit, however don't use it in outer joint.
I don't remember what exact grease does the outer require.

For inner joint you better get a GKN grease as well. I destroyed two axles by using a very expensive but wrong CV grease :)

That's interesting info. The Audi guys love him, I have one on my A4, rebuilt with factory parts.

Both kits come with 2 packs of grease so I'll use them. Thanks for the heads up.

Hand-made vs mass-production with expensive quality checks.

Once in a while, GKN can be bad too, btw...

Same grease in both inner and outer CV joints.

Nothing special about the grease. I have used HD Castrol grease on the joints for 25y, zero issues.

You'll notice soon enough if you put molybdenum disulphide grease into tripod joint.

Thanks for the input, I have a lot of videos and learning to do.
A while back I got cheap control arms on Amazon made by Bapmic. Just working up to the install.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075S ... UTF8&psc=1

Did I make a mistake with that control arm? Will the bushings hold up? (the reviews of the product were good so I went with it)

The ball joints seemed to look good so I did not order replacements.

with the CV boot I'm looking at the inner boot mainly I think it's released most of it's grease. I would love to just add the grease without removing the axle but I think it's right between the frame and everything else...... I'll have to get underneath and see if this is doable to get the clamp at the right angle to finish the job and re-tighten. perhaps there is hope!

You can slack the clamp, inject grease with a syringe, rotate the clamp at needed angle and re-tighten it. However they tend to stretch over time and need to be replaced. Have both my 2 and 3 y.o. Volvo and GKN axles spitting small amounts of grease, the clamps are fully tightened, can't do more.

If I can replenish the grease every few years... hell yeah. Same as the oil leak..... just add more, don't run dry....

Not true.

Mechanically, same engineering issue, same lubrication requirement for both inner and outer CV ball bearings.

The problem with INNER, especially L side: it is close to engine heat. I usually use the grease package that comes with GKN boot. However, I have used Castrol HD wheel bearing grease in many vehicles for the last 15 yrs. Zero issues.

CV joints fail mostly from a breach in the rubber boot, allowing debris to enter.
