Resistors (1991 volvo 740)

Hi, my volvo is somewhat old and the resistors ctrl blower motor is bad. It can only work at setting 5 the highest fan speed (1-4 is dead). Where is a good place to order one resistors?

Are you sure it's the resistors? The fan motor usually goes first.
They can be ordered from Eeuroparts.com (free shipping) or from FCPGroton.com (you pay the shipping).

Thank you for your help. I am not sure but the blower is still working at Setting 5 (highest speed).

Fan speed 5 does not go through the resistor pack so I would think your diagnosis is correct i.e. resistor pack has stopped working.

I have checked several Volvo parts dealers and the only pack I could find was at: http://www.vlvworld.com/indexframe.html?700/toc.htm. That one is used. You may have trouble finding a new one.

Will a 240 resistor work in a 740? I have put way over 100,000 miles on a 740 and never had a fan problem. I have replaced many 240 fan motors and I think I still have some resistors and switches laying around since the fan kit always came with them. I know it would give 4 speeds instead of 5 but the high speed would be the same. Could it work?

I have a feeling that the two resistors are totally different. Working from memory some of the 740 heaters had 1 wire and some 2 wires whilst, I think, the 240s all had two.

I could get shot down on this but I don't think the resistors are interchangeable. If someone knows different I don't mind being corrected.
