2000 V70R Cluster Replacement... Can I Swap the Original Odometer Over?

I'm waiting on a replacement cluster to arrive for my V70R, and I wanted to know if there was a way to keep the original mileage. Before anyone warns me, I know that this cluster came from a 2000 model so it's the correct CAN bus version. I also did my research and it appears that these are NOT coded to the VIN (as I thought... much like the ETM or ABS module, for some reason everybody thinks they're VIN locked but they aren't).
I have determined that the cluster is the cause of my strange ETS light and MIL signal too low codes, so I went ahead and ordered a used replacement. Now to my question...

The cluster I purchased has unknown mileage, but after running the VIN I estimate it has around 124k miles. If the mileage is incorrect, it's not a big deal, I don't plan on selling this car any time soon, but I'd like to be able to keep the correct mileage (188k).
Anyway, I disassembled my current cluster and the odometer is a separate, removable part. Does anyone know if the mileage is stored within the odometer display, or elsewhere on the board?
If it's stored within the odometer display, I may try to transfer that over to the replacement cluster (carefully of course, I don't want screw anything up).

"The vehicle will take the mileage of the higher of the two vehicles, no exceptions, Volvo cannot help with this (buy a new one!). It will record a code in the system saying it has been tampered with. This will not show on your dash and it can be cleared easily by the Vida Dice."

Mileage is stored into the cluster ecm.
That said....you can correct the digital "clock" by lowering or adding mileage,but when you read the cluster with scan tool it will read actual (real) mileage.
This feature,to retrieve actual mileage from the cluster,is unknown to a lot of Volvo dealers,but there are a lots of them who will know how to read actual mileage.
This dealership incompetence is a known worldwide problem.

That's for P2s, P80s have a less advanced setup. I know the mileage is stored in the cluster, but I don't know if that's within the odometer or elsewhere in the cluster.

But how do I modify the mileage? AFAIK, you can't just do that in VIDA since they automatically think you're trying to lower the mileage to make more money selling the car. Someone like me doesn't care at all about the mileage when it comes to buying a car, but I like to keep the mileage accurate when possible.
I know VIDA can read the mileage, but that's stored in the ECU I believe. I think it shows within a couple miles/KM of what is on my odometer.

Lots of dealers are disgustingly incompetent... there's a reason I go there only a couple times a year just for parts. I don't even like giving them business for parts... usually I'll just order them from FCP.

I don't know if that can be done in VIDA but i know for sure that mileage can be corrected visually(to display desireable mileage in digital display)but "real" mileage remain stored in cluster's ecm.
More skilled car programmer or tuner can even correct it into cluster's ecm...to show the same mileage at display AND cluster's ecm.

Car sellers are doing that all the time in order to maximize the car's value for selling.

Maybe some other software is used for that.
Programmers who are doing that have all bunch of different softwares for that job.

I’ll have to see what I can find out. Maybe if I can apply power to the odometer display itself I’ll be able to see if it displays the mileage.
Or I can just leave the potentially lower mileage and it’ll make me feel like my car is newer haha.

It’s unfortunate that they need to do that. Anything to please the uneducated car buyer to squeeze out a few extra bucks. It’s illegal to tamper with mileage in the US if you’re doing it for resale, but I’m sure there are dealers figuring out how to get away with it anyway.
