The 202 temp was without A/C on?

The A/C was off last March when I got that reading. That was during city traffic.

It was cool but humid yesterday so I had the A/C on when highway driving. So humid that vapor came through vents for a short time. I did turn the A/C off a few times for several minutes to see if the temp would drop but it made no difference.

- Thermostat: I use only Wahler, which is OEM. I posted a DIY without the need to remove the PS Pump.

- Coolant, I use Prestone Green, about $12 at Target, Walmart.

Are you referring to the thermostat alone or with the housing? I couldn't find an OEM thermostat by itself. I don't have the thermostat gasket but just the housing gasket. I removed the entire Beck Arnely unit and threw the OEM unit back on. I'll take it for a drive tomorrow afternoon after I bleed out the Volvo 50/50 coolant mixture I added tonight.

Re Wahler thermostat. I bought the whole assembly for $90-$110.
Swap only:
- Thermostat itself.
- ECT
- Upper Housing and gasket.
- I did NOT touch the lower housing.

The P2s have a different thermostat unit than the XC90. There's only 1 housing with the screwed on ECT sensor and the thermostat mounted with it's own gasket.

If the OEM unit opens at lower temperature range then I'll order a Borg Warner thermostat housing unit for $110. Borg baught out Wahler.

Not true...

I have both 2004 V70 2.5T and 2005 XC90 2.5T. The thermostat setup is 99.999% the same.

The 2 housings are held together by a gasket and 2 Torx bolts.

The technique that allowed one to replace the Tstat without removing the PS Pump is outlined below...

Driving with the OEM unit back on it opened at 192F on highway with A/C running. It then dropped to 188F and stayed there for the remaining 40min drive. The Beck Arnley valve would constantly open and close. The IAT also held more steady at 104f on highway. During city traffic it reached 138f max.

If thermostat ever needs a replacement then its the Borg Warner OEM unit.

Why remove the thermostat alone without the housing when you cannot get a valve replacement by itself? I did remove both housing bolts with the PS pump left on but it still cannot be removed with the schrader valve on the fuel line blocking it. Didn't want to mess with the fuel rail after restoring the injectors last winter so I easily removed the belt and PS pump to finish the job.

Coming from P80 (I used to have a 1998 S70 GLT), the thermostat was $14 and easy job (not to mention the Torx bolts).
For the P80, the housing lasts some 25yrs/250K miles.

In the P2, Volvo overdid it, the thermostat is only available as a combo:
- Tstat itself
- ECT
- Both upper and lower housings.

To replace the whole assembly, the PS Pump has to be moved etc. etc. etc.
It is simply a stupid idea.

Anyway, I improvised and replaced only the tstat and ECT. I replaced the upper housing b/c "I was there".
The actual cost for the Tstat is about $14, the ECT about $50 for the P80.
You pay extra for the housings, which are not necessary.

PS: I have never been impressed with Beck Arnley. It is rebranded stuff.
Go for the OEM stuff, which is Wahler in this case, it saves time/effort/headache...

As others have commented previously, it's not very difficult to just move the PS pump aside and do the whole thermostat job with the proper part. Making mountains out of molehills on this one.
