Autowreckers: A wonderful day except!

Post by tailor »

On Saturday I went off to Standard Autowreckers, near the corner of Steeles and Markham Road ,Toronto, Canada.(thanks to Renns)
I was lucky enough to find a few 850's that I pulled the parts off. I was like a kid in a candy store, but I kept my hands out of my mouth.

1)I manged to pick up the outside temp sensor
2) SC810 radio for $10(going to need help to decode it)
3) vent covers, some odd screws, some better shaped mats, wiper arms, the wiper well cover and windscreen moulding.

All in all a really good deal, the idea is you come in and remove your own parts, bring your own tools and then pay at the end when you check out.

The damper on the day was watching another "customer" breaking his
way through the engine to get to various parts. He then proceeded to discard parts over his shoulder that he didn't need, rather than leavng them in the engine bay for someone like me who may need the part that he just tossed.
Rather than being confrontational I kept my mouth shut. I was not looking for a@@kicking.

My point is, this guy was just a moron. I would hope that members of this and other forums who would pull there own parts would consider those who would come after them looking for parts.

My Utopian dream anyway!

Heres the link for anyone who is interested

Tailor,

Glad you had some luck there. Std is a great place to go parts picking. Lots of fresh cars to pick from, and low prices to boot! If you get a chance, check out the all-you-can-carry specials next spring. It's worth the price of admission just to sit on the fence and watch!

Too bad about that jerk damaging the engine. Hopefully it was on some model for which they have dozens available.

Roger.

I wish there was places around me with parts for the cars I own..., only one place has a volvo 850 wagon that I got some parts from but I could only get a few things since it's a different year and color and stuff. The other two yards near me have nothing useful for foreign cars; all american cars usually.

Volvox,

Sorry about the tardy response, been down with this nasty flu.

I did notice a Blue V70 I it was, I think a 97. Most of it had already been "canabilized" . No seats, no hatch glass(seems someone wanted the wiper assembly and took a hammer to the glass). Most of what I got was from sedans .
I might be going out next week again, I can keep a look out for you.
Let me know if I can help any further.

Oceanman: Look around for a LKQ pick your parts place. They are a chain and we have one in Charleston, SC. Call before you go to see if they have the car(s) your are looking for.

The prices are great.

Thank you for your reply, Tailor.

I was thinking about dropping by next week, but if it's just a V70 and not 850 then some parts might not be compatible.

Anyway, happy "picking'n'pulling" and Happy New Year to all!
