Re: Engine Oil recommendation ?
I've gone through four or five different brands of 5w40 in my car the last three years (70000 km with 10000 km intervals) and I've noticed absolutely no difference between them. Same almost non-existent oil consumption and sounds the same. All were low cost options at ~3€/litre so they could all have been from the same actual manufacturer, who knows.

Yeah well.. I did try to find out the top speed in Germany (legally) but at 235 kph it started raining and I eased off. I do quite often floor it and use all the available revs to get to (reasonably) legal speeds though.MoVolvos wrote: ↑19 Jul 2019, 14:42Unless you drive like this you probably won't noticeRattnalle wrote: ↑19 Jul 2019, 03:37 I've gone through four or five different brands of 5w40 in my car the last three years (70000 km with 10000 km intervals) and I've noticed absolutely no difference between them. Well then, not that I don't discount your experience but I've had the breathe of owning and maintaining a lot of car over the years and really tried a lot of brands. The latest was the Mobile 1 5-40W vs the Rotella 5-40W in a van that we've put over 70K miles. No question there is a difference.
One of these days I think I might compile a list just for fun before my memory... Oh, I was saying my memory.

5 minutes?!!! I'm sure I could pass a Mercedes faster than that LOL. Unless I'm driving the C70 2.5T as it's surprisingly slow and the transmission likely would loose its cool!abscate wrote: ↑20 Jul 2019, 18:06June passed him 5 minutes in...MoVolvos wrote: ↑19 Jul 2019, 14:42Unless you drive like this you probably won't noticeRattnalle wrote: ↑19 Jul 2019, 03:37 I've gone through four or five different brands of 5w40 in my car the last three years (70000 km with 10000 km intervals) and I've noticed absolutely no difference between them. Seriously 10W30 is the heaviest grade I would use. Since I switched to Redline 100% Synthetic oil I use 5W30 without issue year round. I still run the Hell out of my T6 even at 185K there is no end in sight for my engine. It runs flawlessly with tons of power and no oil consumption. June

YMMV as always with these things. Maybe I'm just not listening well. Or the ACEA ratings used here in Europe make the options more likely to perform the same.MoVolvos wrote: ↑19 Jul 2019, 16:37OK, so it is you in the video.

Both grades you list have the same grade at running temperature. They're only different when cold. So 5w40 is actually heavier when running but the same when cold as your 5w30. The winter grade is only really relevant in actual winter when it's freezing.June wrote: ↑20 Jul 2019, 19:415 minutes?!!! I'm sure I could pass a Mercedes faster than that LOL. Harsh winters down there in Jacksonville. Sometimes , June puts a sweater in the car in case she gets delayed.
