2004 S60 2.5T Hello!

Post by MDK »

Hellooooo.. Craigslist? again? Louisville Kentucky? MDK here... So I found this 2004 S60 2.5 T with 190,000 on the odometer. Car runs, clean title has issues... 500$..No, you don't say. Really? A Volvo with issues? I'm surprised... For 5 bills.. definitely worth a look.

Think of this as an investment: if I had the time and space available, I would part this car out myself and make much more than $500. Very solid, complete car. I had the transmission rebuilt and the car was a reliable daily driver, but developed an odd noise in neutral and park; a friend said it may be a loose bolt on the torque converter. I parked the car and let it sit for about a year. When I decided to address the problem, it started and ran (still with the odd noise) but it had also developed a large oil leak, which I can only assume was a seal that became brittle from sitting so long. The right buyer could get this car back on the road!
The Good: all body panels are rust free, and there is only one small dent (see pics: behind rear wheel on driver's side). Minor curb rash on a couple of wheels, all with tires with plenty of life left. All glass and plastic lenses are complete and unbroken. Sunroof which does not leak. Engine is the 2.5T (turbocharged).
The Bad: Bad oil leak. Typical Volvo electrical gremlins. The Drivers Information Module, more appropriately known as "DIM", is dim. Will require a tow to get it home. The aforementioned transmission issue and a creaky front suspension.
The Ugly: The leather interior is complete, no cuts, but pretty dirty.

As the owner of two S60s, a 2001 and a 2003, one of which was free and the other I paid $1600 for the car and a spare motor... I would say this car and about $1800 will get you a reliable driver worth about $3200.

On my cars, I figure I am paying myself about $2.50/hour. But hey, its a hobby...

It’s a shame to destroy a good car which needs Swap of trans just for parts. I’ve parted two 99s but had buyers to cover major body parts , block, and transmission from Day 0. Otherwise you quickly find out its a minimum wage enterprise. I needed a CVVT hub on mine so I was already in for a penny at the junkyard.
