Playing with with waste gate tension rod, especially when you do not fully understand it, is not the wisest move. I'm not pointing fingers
or judging someones intelligence. Waste gates open at a preset tension based on the spring in the gate. 4,7 psi etc. at those pressures the gate opens allowing exhaust gas to bypass the compressor and either be returned to exhaust system, intake charge or atmosphere(racing)
It is one of many components set up in a system of checks and balances to control boost pressure, spikes, overboosting etc.

Use a boost controller and you are effectively "tricking" the ECM into thinking that waste gate is at a different pressure than what it really is. These items can be used, and they do help produce gains, IF you know what you are doing.

One the flip side, if you've got a ton of money lying around and just want to play a bit of roulette, spin the barrel and see which part fails first.

All of these adjustments by the way are minute. 1/8th to a 1/4 turn at a time with logs in between to see what effect the adjustment made.

It's a slippery slope.
