OK, there is a solution to this madness!!!!! There was a loose cable at the ECM!! Now with it back in place the car starts every time!!! What a crazy thing but the code ECM2400 said to check wire from ECM to CEM. When doing this i found a loose wire!

Volvo Horns to Rick back in April!!
Are the other codes all ECM-XXXX?

Check the wiring to the fuel pump relay.

ECM-2400 Fuel pump (FP) relay. Signal too high or too low. Permanent fault

Possible source
Signal too high:
short-circuit to supply voltage in the signal cable
Signal too low:
short-circuit to ground in the signal cable
open-circuit in the signal cable

Very good! There was a lot of other intermittent stupidity going on also so I figured it was because the car had been sitting here in the FL heat/moisture. Removed ECM, sprayed contact cleaner and waited a few mins for it to dry and then assembled again. CAr runs like new now again!

back to the same problem......... i want to know which modules are "married" with the VIN? I know the CEM and ECM. I have a 2003 S60 also which runs and starts up all the time..... would like to swap ECM and CEM from that one into the 2001 and see if it will stop the problem. If so I can send the CEM to be rebuilt and be done with this mystery nightmare!
