2001 Volvo S60 TCM E000

Post by Alexis2929 »

My Volvo S60 has in intermittent shifting issue. At times it shifts super smooth but then at others it’s horrible. It gets stuck in neutral when shifting and then shifts hard. Sometimes it slips when driving. I’ve noticed that the transmission tends to shift better when the car isn’t at running temp yet.
there is no check engine light but I found TCM E000 transmission control module faulty communication
I’m guessing that the contact points are dirty but i don’t know what this code means.
Do you guys know anything that could help me?

TCM-E000 Control module communication. Faulty communication

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information TCM-E000

Condition
The control modules transmit and receive information via a standardized serial communication method - CAN (Controller Area Network). The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the control module registers serious interference (CAN communication blocked).
Note! In the event of system communication problems, it is not possible to communicate with the control module. Therefore it will only be possible to read off the fault if it is intermittent.

Substitute value
Control module shuts itself off ("bus-off").

Hint:
The control module will remain shut off until the power supply is broken (15, 30, X). When the power supply is connected the control module will make a new attempt to communicate.

Possible source
  • Short-circuit between the control area network (CAN) wiring
Open-circuit in the control area network (CAN) wiring
Damaged pins on Transmission control module (TCM).
Internal fault in the control module
Internal fault in another control module in the same part of the control area network (CAN). ECM, ETM, TCM, ABS SAS.
The low hanging fruit is to clean and inspect the connector to the TCM.

Fault symptoms
No shifting.

If you want to read more about the CAN bus system and E000 code, see
www.s80.dk/Billeder/2010-05-26_205437_088051.pdf
This gets very deep into the Volvo electronic system and talks some about E000 and E001 codes. Also talks about trouble shooting process for CANbus. No silver bullets here, but some solid information. I found this while investigating my own CAN bus problems on the same model.
