Hello everyone,
I have a 2003 Volvo XC90 2.9 T6 twin turbo and the only way it will run is with the MAF sensor disconnected. I have replaced the sensor with no change. There are no codes(other than MAF being disconnected)..I was wondering if anyone can help point me in the right direction for this issue..thanx

Confirm new MAF works. Is it Volvo branded?

Check for leaks on the fresh air and charge pipes. Tighten down good, holes in pipes ... etc.

I had a similar problem with mine many years ago, but it ran poorly unless I pulled the MAF. I tried cleaning the MAF with the correct cleaner and after that it didn't work at all. It was like your situation. Meaning a bad MAF resulted in a NO start. I replaced the MAF and all was well.
Just because the MAF is new and from the dealer does not mean it is working. Also check the part numbers and make sure they match - both the box and the actual unit. You wouldn't be the first person or the last that got the wrong part and/or a swapped out part from a crooked customer that did a swap.
After this point I would recommend you get a VOM and check to make sure you have no shorts in the wiring going to the MAF. Visually inspect the connection harness/wiring and make sure it is clean and has no breaks.
There should be some write ups on the forum which reflect what kind of meter readings you should be getting for the MAF. I have seen them.
Do you get the same codes whether the MAF is connected or not? This can hint towards a wiring issue.
