They do carry them, and quite affordably, for the 1998 V70 T5 that I had expected to be my project car.

I drove the T5 around 200 miles over the past couple of weeks, including a few highway runs back and forth from Queens, and I have to say that I'm very impressed at the smooth power it delivers and how effortlessly it allows me to pass other cars at 60-70mph. (Plus, the AC works perfectly!)

Hooked up the compression test and the numbers weren't so great, with PSI (dry) readings of 152, 155, 160, 155, 145. The T5 also has a power-steering leak from the left axle, needs brakes and suspension on all four corners. I could garage it for now and work on it bit by bit, hopefully having it ready to go by next spring. (My track record isn't so great, though, with a VW Eurovan that needed new timing chains now going on more than two years. Now, it's the fuel pump, then it's going up for sale.)

Today, it has a no-start, no-crank condition. I'm hoping it's just the antenna ring.

The latest conundrum is a 2004 XC90 T5 with 80k miles that my family's mechanic is selling for a decent price. The low mileage and the increased safety for carrying our three little ones is so tempting. Can anyone talk me into it? :)
bmdubya1198 wrote: 26 Aug 2019, 19:23 Sold the S90 today... I wasn't really expecting to sell it, but it gives me one more driveway space and some cash for a new turbo for the R.

But let's be realistic... I'll probably somehow end up with another Volvo on the driveway by the end of the week
Nice! I live vicariously through your Volvo adventures! :)
I'd go for it on the XC90... the 2.5T is a solid engine, probably the most reliable/durable engine offered in the XC90. Of course I'm partial to the V8, but I'll be honest... parts ain't cheap, and they can be a little finicky. That said, it's still a Volvo... not many things will stop it completely and it is pretty damn reliable. The biggest issue with ours is the timing cover gasket/valve cover gaskets that I've put off replacing. I have all the parts sitting on the shelf, I should really get to fixing that.
The main complaint with the 2.5 is that it's a bit less powerful than the T6 or V8, but unless you're towing heavy loads with it, you should be just fine. XC90s make great family cars, tons of space and they look good too!

That PS leak on the T5 is probably your rack seals leaking. Time for a new rack and pinion! I would recommend a reman unit... I feel like there's a place that's commonly used on here, but I can't think of the name.

I love my Volvos... my cousins laugh at me, but at least one of them gets it, he has 3 of his own. As long as I keep it under 10 on the driveway, I don't think it's considered a "problem"

Dont sell that T4 - take if off road. They are diamonds that are appreciating in value. You can't get a compact camper van in the US in any make new right now without spending 100k

Nope, not the ring. Immob does not inhibit cranking on P80

. No cranks are easy - start by looking for 12V on the remote starter terminal when key is turned to POS III - you need a helper for this. She will help when she realizes she is helping to empty the driveway

Picked her up today from getting a new heater core. Once again my habit of checking the fluid levels at every fill up saved the day. June

Which? Tire Rack? Are you caught in the old 50 vs. 55 profile trap?

You need to put in the tire size, not the vehicle. Simple Tire only carries like 3 tires for the XC90, but if I put in 255/50R19 there are tons of options. As long as it meets or exceeds weight/speed/etc. requirements, you're good to go!

Used the 850 OBD-II app to verify that my auto trans mode switch is actually working, even though there are no lights on the switch, and the shift arrow is not working (even though I checked the bulb and it was good).

The app "Live" function showed the mode change from all 3 settings on the switch, as well as the shift light was activated, even though the bulb in the cluster appears to be buggy.

There is A LOT of functionality in this app.

(It also scanned down the ABS codes (I know about, because I need to swap out the module), as well as DTCs for both power seats.

Yep. I’m shown 195 60R15 for the ‘98 V70 base. I do see summer tires under 55. Is that common?

Found a perfect fender panel in the junkyard Monday.

Does anyone know how to install the outer door trim? Does it just snap onto the plastic pieces or is it better to slide it on?

Working on 3 cars simultaneously at the moment.

The 850 has an annoying rattle coming from the back, and I think it's the passenger side.
When I did the rear brakes I forgot to install the retaining springs for the pads. So I will install these to see if it remedies the problem. Cleaned the car yesterday and it's in the garage.

I finally ordered a rebuilt ABS module for the S70 from Matty Moo. That will be installed asap. Still need to replace the cracked hoses of the EVAP system and then hopefully I don't have to erase the stupid codes all the time anymore.

As of a few days ago the 05' V70 sports a nice rear spoiler. Interesting job, nothing like drilling big holes in the exterior of your car. Somehow the car isn't fond of the addition though, now I'm getting a "check stop lamp" warning message.
Well, I did check, and everything seems to be working fine, so I don't know what that's all about.
