Told the whooshing is most likely cockpit baffling down low on steering column.
Except my mechanic says very unlikely since he didn't touch it or go near it.

Drivers side, top of intercooler near where the trans cooler line exits trans cooler.
On an R it may be on the charge pipe that runs from IC to intake manifold.
I’d sure think it’d run pretty bad if this had become dislodged from the intercooler. But not sure how else to explain non-turbo whooshing sound from drivers side engine bay. It was the first thing that seemed to make sense.
Could be a hole in a boost tube/pipe I spose too. You check the one coming off the turbo?

There is definitely a hole in the OTE charge pipe to the turbo. Small one where the mount broke off. I've got it covered with flex tape for now. It is possible I don't have it completely covered, but I don't think that's the issue.

Can you replicate it with the car not in motion? Ie brake boosting? Then a second set of eyes/cell phone camera to determine location.

I'm going to have to deal with a non-functioning hood release lever first. . .
I can only pull the internal release lever back halfway before getting resistance. If a helper pushes down on the hood, then I can pull the lever all the way back, the latch releases and the helper can raise the hood to get to the release lever. Any suggested remedies?

Hopefully you don’t have to replace the hood pop cable. It’s only $36 but takes a bit of tinkering and time to replace.
One thing that helps reduce strain on the cable is to turn completely IN the rubber ~1ish inch bump stops on the right & left front corners of the underside of the hood.
Gotta get the hood open to do that though

The Rs have the auxiliary intercooler below and in front of the normal intercooler. Make sure the hose is not ruptured on the driver's side. The hose at turbo to OTE pipe. Yours i an 06, the 04's have an O ring and V band clamp junction but the 05-07 have the usual connector cuff hose. The engine idles OK and no check engine light?

No CEL and, after initial start and warm up, idles ok, with perhaps an occasional slight fluctuation of probably 100 rpm or less. Already have replacement OTE charge pipe on order. I'll check aux intercooler connections. Getting 27 mpg mixed city/highway on 93 octane.

AAARRRGGHH! another lengthy post that failed to get registered. Likely my fault...
Fuel trim numbers will tell you if it leaks somewhere but the hole in OTE pipe has to be addressed and then drive it to let that cause fo fuel trim offset be dealt with. Has it always had this noise or is it new? The air cleaner box on R's can warp or not be fitted together well and the air and turbo noise from airr cleaner is way noticeable if that is the case.
