13 S60 T5 AWD Front suspension bearing

Post by cdretc »

My front suspension bearing is gone. Can I just replace that or does the spring seat also need replacement? Is there an upgrade or should I just use the original Volvo one? Or are OEMs good enough? Thanks

I actually doing a full suspension replacement on my 2012 T6 as I type this, front and rear. I am replacing everything but the spring i front. It just makes sense because the job is a PITA, having to compress the spring. Might as well pit all new in while you have it apart. My car is at 80K and the strut is shot, and the bearing is noisy and grinds. Check out IPD they offer a few aftermarket choices, I think they are all about the same.

It makes the job twice as expensive. The bearing is rubber but the seat is metal, so I don't know if it can wear out. Maybe your spring tool is not very good, I don't find it difficult to compress at all, but I also have air tools, so maybe that's the difference. Thanks for your feedback though. I hope your job went well.

I guess if the seat is not bent or corroded it is OK to reuse. Personally I would not want to have to take it out again. Going with Volvo part will be expensive but like I said there are aftermarket options much cheaper, some places offer the bearing and seat as a kit.

My spring tool is too long - the threaded rod hits the flange before full compression. This year I just bought a Milwaukee 1/2 cordless impact wrench. Probably the best tool purchase I have ever made.
