Turbo + supercharger + EV = too much?
These hybrid Volvos... is it just too much? Us DIY'ers know complexity is a necessary evil, so when they pile on all this stuff onto a high tech 2-liter 4-cylinder, is it asking for trouble? I think it is. I'm wary.

They're building them this way -- T8 designation -- on the S90 ($74,950), XC90 (also $74,950) and XC60 ($71,850).

AS Charles Bronson said..
You've got two decimal points too many....($74,950), XC90 (also $74,950) and XC60 ($71,850).

Re: Turbo + supercharger + EV = too much?
It amazes me how much good cars cost today. Yet when I compare them vs. prices from say the 1990s that have been adjusted for inflation, they're not all that expensive.

My 1999 T5 was 36k in 1999, new.
In 2019 USD that’s 55k at USG CPI

Re: Turbo + supercharger + EV = too much?
So let's say $55k is ballpark, today, for a decent car. That checks out with a Reality Check™ by building an S60 clocking in at $54,800.

Re: Turbo + supercharger + EV = too much?
Vehicle pricing is not always related to build costs....lower priced Ford/GM vehicles were discontinued, due to lower profit margins.
'Truck, truck and away': Pickups drive GM's profit beat
DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Co (GM.N) posted a better-than-expected net profit on Thursday as high-margin pickup trucks, SUVs and crossovers helped overcome slowing sales in the United States and China, and reiterated its full-year earnings forecast.

Re: Turbo + supercharger + EV = too much?
I do agree that the T8s will probably be less durable in the very long term than our well-cared-for 850s, just as they themselves are less durable than were the 240s. But most 850s have been scrapped by now, due to busted timing belts, popped heater cores, neglected PCVs, etc. The median 850 probably didn't make it past 200k. I'd expect the average S60 to last as long as did the average 850, and be a much better car all the while.
Maybe the best-maintained T8s won't last as long as have the best-maintained 850s, but that's a drop in the bucket compared to the general population.
