I’ve been price anchored by Dirks $650 V70 Nautic Blue Beige stick shift wagon, forever
The true 2019 cost of capitalization of my 1999 is probably more like $90,000
Turbo + supercharger + EV = too much?

I have no doubt the T6/T8 models will keep service departments of Volvo dealerships across the US VERY busy.
But they NAILED the new design language. They look so great.

Yes, agreed. Best lineup in the automotive kingdom. Same language across the models, just like with the P2 line. It's really special.jblackburn wrote: ↑11 Sep 2019, 05:59 I have no doubt the T6/T8 models will keep service departments of Volvo dealerships across the US VERY busy.

No labor, $30,000 in the SP500 in late 1998 would be $90,000 today
If you pay someone to steal your money from you, you would only lose $45000 , though
Those thieves are called “ Financial Planners”

It’s a brutal analysis but a valid one,
The true capital cost of a car is not the price paid and the CPI index at end of life, but arguably theninvested value of said money. I used the SP500 index example above.
That means the 200,000 mile car bought new costs you 45 Cpm opportunity cost
This is what really makes buying a 100k car at 10k, or the 200k car at 5k the winner on Cost of ownership. Evan has this down to an art.

I'll weigh in on this. You know, because opinions are like certain body parts.
I agree that there is just too much going on in cars these days. But with new environmental regulations and safety regulations it was inevitable that the costs and complexity of cars would increase. With the shortage of auto technicians repair costs will only increase, making ownership of overly complicated cars an even larger financial strain on consumers.
As far as the currency conversion goes, I would agree with this as well, except notice that there is an extra $15k in price which accounts for the new safety, carplay, emissions tech and luxury standard. Volvo is luxury now instead of premium so the old buyers are now over at Subaru buying an Outback for $25,000.
I'd guess that if you built a new fully loaded 850 today you'd be able to ask about $18-20k if you installed a infotainment screen in it. Which puts in on par with what a loaded Jetta sells for locally. Of course the technology in an 850 is very affordable these days so it might still be a profitable vehicle to build.

What puts it in perspective is that buying that 50k car today is basically spending 200k of your grandkids education fund

I'm drooling at the 48v - perfect for recharging industrial machinery and powering "large" inverters =)
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
