Shrill noise when driving on slushy roads
Slushy snow eh! Bin in that a lot, and would put my money on a one of the many tin shields under the car. You could start by going to the area of the noise and crimping a few areas of the shields, or look for a spot weld that has let go. Not recommended but effective, would be to take a ball peened hammer and change their form a bit.

JRL in a moment of mental blindness I forgot that the driveshaft is always turning anyway, being driven by the rear wheels.JRL wrote:God bless, did you read anything that was said?
If this is in fact the rain squeal, that has NOTHING to do with the AWD "engaging"
It happened again to my wife today, as she drove through a patch of water.
Looks like I will be heading for my local Volvo dealer ...
