Neither of the above. Isn’t AMERICA a great place? If you visit here, some States you will be amazed at what you see on the road. In NY we have safety inspections each year but they are about 1/3 as comprehensive as Europe

Freedom and safety can be mutually exclusive. I prefer the former. With it I can see to the latter myself better than the state can.

I'm quite impressed you even managed to make the leap from vehicle inspection to freedom.

Personally I think all the evidence points to people in general not being able to handle any sort of freedom responsibility and certain things therefore need to be regulated. Or phrased differently: People in general are idiots. Though if I lived in the US I might not trust the state either seeing who's in charge..

Not having to worry about other people's inability to take care of their vehicles is a great upside to the very minor hassle of yearly inspections. The latter also gives me a second opinion on things that need fixing.

Decisions made by committee are usually at about the intelligence level of the weakest member. State mandates for anything have most people pounding a square peg in to a round hole. Trusting someone else to check the required boxes on a form the state thinks is applicable to all may give so-called idiots the illusion of safety, but it offers unscrupulous mechanics the power of law to sell victims things they don't need in order to be allowed to drive. I know how thick my brake pads are already. When the state picks a random date every year to force me to have a third party look at them it's a waste of my time, money and an insult to my intelligence.

I put off adjusting and tightening my E-Brake cables.

Oddly enough they work pretty good for forward motion, but are terrible for stopping the car going backward.

This weekend I put off investigating why I have a "check stop lamp" warning on the dash after installing a rear spoiler on the 05' V70.
Also still not addressed is an outer passenger side CV joint boot that cracked right at the shaft. Not loosing any grease so how long can I go? We shall see.

You can wrap that with plastic to keep crap out.

The rear tailgate loom on P2s can also break,my 2005 has the lock wire broken right now.

I'm with 850 LPT (and have been all Summer) in that I've been avoiding making my left side stop lamp light up.

The old bulb holder was burnt and warped and I got a clean one from another V70 (a possible parts car which I can have for $1,000).

It's just not cooperating.

I am a big believer in parts cars for spare parts. This explains partly why I have 10 Volvos. But, you do need to have a place to park them all.

I put off changing to winter tires today. LOL - no winter tires in southern Oklahoma. Not enough winter to worry about changing tires!

I cleared it off, warmed it up, then decided to put off driving it until tomorrow. The road doesn't look bad until you get get out there and it's a sheet of ice. A neighbor drove past with a freshly mushed front bumper and I chickened out.
