will 0137 code send trans to limp mode?

New question: Is it possible the ABS unit might be causing this?

On other fronts, my brother is familiar with windoze and has an old laptop I can have. I sent him a link and he downloaded VOL FCR to it for me. I ordered this for him to use as a cable; https://www.amazon.com/findway-Version- ... op?ie=UTF8. He has an 850 wagon he can test it on so I'll let him hopefully get it hooked up and figured out before I see him.

I'm hoping it will be better than my current scanner which I will give to my oldest so he can reduce his reliance on me when either of his 2 850s act up. At least he can pull engine codes and look at live data with it.

The scanner arrived and it does read transmission and ABS codes as advertised because I tried it on my driver 850 GLT. When I plug it in to the wagon with no 4ht gear however it says there are no codes in the TCM. It also says fail to connect to ECU. I was hoping not to examine every pin in the OBDII socket and the computer sockets but it's looking like I need to find the time to get a pinout and do that.

Update: the cheap Harbor freight scanner that won't read transmission codes DOES find the engine control module and read it. The icarsoft unit still says no ECU connection but does connnect to the transmission control just fine. Oh, and I unplugged the ABS unit because I've read that could be a problem (and this car has a bad one) but there was no change.
