Smog failure due to Catalyst

Post by whocaresplease »

Any ideas on how to fix this? I've driven it over 800 miles since the last battery disconnection. I've taken it through the recommended drive cycles as well.

I'm starting to wonder if it's possible to force "readiness" via OBD-II like a lot of Subaru owners do. I'd be fine with this options as well since I'm moving in a week to a place where emissions testing is far more lax.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Try this first as it just worked for my friend in San Jose. Due to that problem he went and bought a new Outback he had been eyeing for a year.

"You introduced me Scotty Kilmer a while back and I tried the lacquer thinner cleaning catalytic converter on the Maxima last Saturday. After four days of driving, the engine light went out. I am going to bring it back to CarMax again this weekend and get rid of it. I am not sure if it is the thinner, the car gained at least 20HP and very responsive now."

Look for a Local Porsche or Ferrari repair shop and see if you can get a bottle of Swepco 502? Put it in with the dirty oil and drive about 500 miles and change the oil to the Rotella T6 5W-40. If the shop has the Swepco motor oil use that. Helped an old Mercedes that was parked for 4 years due to Smog problems pass after using that combo. If you were in the Bay Area you can go to Independant Volvo to get the stuff.

I got it online today by driving 15 minutes between 50 and 60 mph...

Crazy that this is what it took after trying 100 different things

Excellent, I have my doubts  each time I recommend this but it seems to work for most people.
