How is the trunk suppose to work?

Post by chris11211 »

I am trying to figure out how the trunk door is suppose to open (S60 06). I am able to open it with the key and key button, however, the button on the trunk will not respond to it being pressed, but it will sometimes respond when the trunk is open, so idk if a wire is pinched or something. I also tried to mess around with all the doors unlocked as well, and still, no response.

So if someone can let me know if it's a simple fix where I gotta find something and put it in place? or do I go and get a new actuator on ebay or something?

Thx!

The trunk lid button is an electric switch so yes a worn or broken cable would be a plausible explanation.

On mine it works only with all 4 doors unlocked. This button would rarely fail, but you may try replacing with used one. See Youtube how to remove it (or check my signature below) its togheter with the rear plate lights

Again, it does not work with all four doors unlocked; only once in awhile when the door is already opened. Do you know what part number is it? I found it on ebay, but I'm not sure if I can get it for cheaper with the number.

See comments section. Also try looking at the REM - rear module inside the trunk, left side behind cover, water may get to it

Okay, so I figured out that the main wire from the fuse box to the trunk has a wire pinched somewhere along the line where it's exposed outside the trunk door, and when I mess around with it, I am able to get full power back to the button on all angles. So now the question is, what should I do? And what is the part number for the replacement wire?

The classic trunk/ tailgate failure is fatigue of the wires in the hinge area. You have to cut open the sheathing with a sharp blade to find the fault. Sometimes you can feel the wire break through the sheathing to keep the surgery relatively small.
