1999 S70 Repairing/replacing fuel line 9205160
Hi everyone, first post and new to the Volvo forums. I hope my question is worthy of a new post and hasn't been answered elsewhere. Hope you guys can help me with a solution for a discontinued part. I recently purchased a 1999 S70 I have started thinking of as my Golden Flying Moose (hoping to get a prancing moose sticker soon
). Been doing all the basic time up and repairs to have a healthy car including fuel filter. Unfortunately the coupling that goes from the output of the filter to the fuel line broke. The usual, red pieces falling out. I've seen a number of posts with similar issues from about 2016, with the ultimate solution being finally purchasing a new fuel line. Unfortunately when I called Volvo they informed me the part I need (9205160) is discontinued and I can't find a part anywhere on the usual sites I've been able to find for my cars needs.

There was a post recently on a similar issue. The writer had found a similar connector and used heavy duty fuel flexible pipe to join the 2.
Hopefully someone out there may recall it and direct you to it.

Thank you for your suggestion on the post to search for Neil. Do you recall if it was from around 2016? I saw one from that time that had some short term successes using a Ford fuel filter from the 2001 V70 and an AutoZone part, but it only sounded to last a few months
. I don't know much about fuel lines as it was the one thing that hadn't konked out yet on my old B3 VR6. Any articles or instructions to check out that could help my in patching the problem effectively?

This is the post I saw originally. I feel like a dunderhead that I didn't see there was a second page. The final solution looks a like a solid fix. Can anyone confirm if a heat gun is a safe option for the nylon fuel line? What precautions should I take not to go up in flames? That would be bad day...

Ok, so after checking out all the options shown on the posts you guys provided as well as checking out the option of sacrificing the end from an IPD fuel line for the other side of the filter my father in law and I came up with this solution. This fitting allows me to use my stock filter and only cost $20 for the total repair!

You don't even need the quick-connect thingy.
My 1998 BMW uses simple hose + clamps. No quick-connect.
Anyway, the youtube video below showed this idea (simple fuel hose + clamps) on a 1998 V70:
Remember you are clamping a plastic tube (the broken side), so go easy bc you are not clamping a metal nipple.
On the fuel filter side, you can go a bit tighter.

Both nicely done. Add an engineering inspection protocol to those repairs. Your nose will tell you if you have a seep, but 10 seconds under with a flashlight looking for staining will catch it earlier.
I would say once a season, every three months.
One of the beautys of doing your own car repair is you can manage costs by a simple solution plus awareness.
A garage can't do this for liability, and will make you replace $2000 of OEM fuel line from Sweden.
